We are your blockchain development company in New Zealand

We build blockchain products for companies in New Zealand with our in-house team, starting from how the FMA places each token in the financial product categories according to the rights it gives.

Blockchain development in New Zealand, from idea to production

We turn your use case into a product that can be launched, operated and extended. A single team designs the architecture, writes the contracts and integrates them with your systems.

Tell us what you want to build
  1. The New Zealand framework, from the architecture

Before choosing a network we place the token in the FMA's categories: debt, equity, managed investment or derivative. Even if it fits none of them, transferring value or holding custody can be a regulated financial service, and FSPR registration does not replace a licence.

  2. Smart contracts ready for review

We build your business logic with tests and peer review, and prepare the code for an external audit and a gradual deployment before it reaches production.

  3. In English, with meetings on your time

You work in English, or in Spanish if your team prefers, with the people who design and write the code. Meetings are set within your working hours, and the work moves forward mostly in writing, through shared documentation and a stable technical channel.

  4. A foundation your team can maintain

We document the code and plan deployments and monitoring, so your team can maintain the product and add features on a foundation it understands.

Use cases

Blockchain use cases in New Zealand

New Zealand already records its fishing quota as tradable rights, covers insured homes against earthquakes and keeps land titles online; these cases build on that.

    Fishing quota

Since 1986, the quota system has split the commercial catch of each fish stock into individual transferable quota, whose public registers Fishserve keeps for the Crown.

    Natural hazards insurance

A home with fire insurance has NHCover against earthquakes or tsunamis, generally capped at NZ$300,000 plus GST, and the claim is usually handled by its private insurer.

Blockchain regulatory framework in New Zealand

New Zealand has no single crypto-asset law: the FMA applies the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 depending on whether a token is debt, equity, a managed investment or a derivative. The Financial Service Providers Register (FSPR) does not replace FMA licences, and since 1 July 2026 the DIA has been the sole anti-money laundering (AML) supervisor. In March 2026 the FMA excluded one specific stablecoin, NZDD, from the financial product category, under backing, redemption and transparency conditions that do not extend to other tokens.

Milestones enabling blockchain in New Zealand

Three dates in 2026: the NZDD designation, the start of CARF tax data collection and the DIA's single AML supervision. Each milestone links to its source.

Security

Security in blockchain development in New Zealand

Every delivery goes through the same checklist before it reaches mainnet. What changes between projects is the depth of each control, because an MVP does not carry the same risk as a contract that holds third-party funds.

Before mainnet

  • Roles and permissions defined for every critical function
  • Unit and invariant tests, and fuzzing on the logic that moves value
  • Static analysis and peer review of every change
  • Multisig and timelock on administration when the risk justifies it
  • Custody and rotation of the deployment keys agreed
  • External audit when the value at risk requires it

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about blockchain development in New Zealand

What we are asked before a project starts.

Talk to our team
  1. Which regulations apply to a blockchain project in New Zealand?

It depends on the token's rights and on the services each company provides. If the token is debt, equity, a managed investment or a derivative, the Financial Markets Conduct Act applies, with offer documentation and, depending on the activity, an FMA licence. Providers register on the FSPR where the law requires it and meet AML obligations with the DIA. We analyse the fit of your case before writing any code.

  2. Do you work with both startups and established companies?

Yes. We support startups from MVP validation to a product they can show in a funding round, and established companies on tokenization, traceability and digital identity projects with strict compliance requirements. Smart contracts go through tests and review before they reach mainnet.

  3. How do you work with New Zealand companies?

In English, or in Spanish if you prefer, in direct contact with the people who design and build the product. Decision meetings are arranged during your working hours, and the rest of the work moves forward in writing, with shared documentation, recorded decisions and a stable technical channel.

  4. How long does blockchain development take?

It depends on product complexity, integrations and the level of review required. Before development we define scope, dependencies and deliverables for each phase, so you can decide what reaches production first and what waits for a second iteration. That way an MVP is never mistaken for a complete architecture.

  5. Which blockchain network is right for my project?

We do not choose a network because it is trending. For EVM projects we assess Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum or Base on finality, costs, tooling, interoperability, custody and compliance, and we consider non-EVM networks if they fit better. The recommendation covers contracts, indexing, wallets and operations, and starts from the product requirements and who will use it.
