The idea behind ERC-7943 is to define only the minimal common ground a RWA token needs for control and compliance, keeping the token core lean and letting composable DeFi be built around it. It offers three interface variants depending on the base token, detectable via ERC-165: fungible (over ERC-20), non-fungible (over ERC-721) and multi-token (over ERC-1155 or ERC-6909). The key functions are forcedTransfer for enforcement, setFrozenTokens and getFrozenTokens to freeze balances, and the view hooks canSend, canReceive and canTransfer, which an integrator checks to confirm an operation is legal before executing it on-chain. The standard also fixes its errors and events (ForcedTransfer, Frozen) so behavior stays uniform.
Today every RWA stack has its own API, from ERC-3643 and T-REX to ERC-1400, which fragments integration. uRWA provides a common, agnostic interface so DeFi protocols, custodians and platforms can interoperate with any RWA token by detecting its capabilities via ERC-165, without being tied to a specific identity provider. That eases composability between tokenized assets and DeFi (lending, automated market makers) while preserving regulatory enforcement such as freezing and forced transfer.
It was authored by Dario Lo Buglio, Tino Martinez Molina and Mihai Colceriu; the EIP was created on 10 June 2025 and reached Final status within Ethereum's formal standards process, announced in late May 2026, with its interface, errors and events frozen for production use. Because it is a recently finalized standard, production adoption is still early, so any deployment should be verified case by case before being treated as confirmed. The canonical reference is eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-7943.
Technical rules apply configured conditions. Asset classification, customer identification and other external obligations are not resolved by the contract.
