Staking links assets to participation in validating a proof-of-stake network. Rewards may include issuance and fees, depending on the protocol. They are not guaranteed interest and can vary with activity, parameters and validator performance.
Ethereum distinguishes penalties for missed duties from slashing for demonstrable actions such as double proposals or incompatible votes. Not every disconnection causes slashing. Deposits, withdrawals and validator consolidation follow protocol rules and queues.
Participation can be individual or through a service or pool. These models change key control, fees and counterparty risks. A liquid staking token adds exposure to its contract and a market price that may differ from the underlying asset.
