PFP (Profile Picture NFT)

A PFP (Profile Picture) is an image used as an avatar or profile photo. In an NFT context, it refers to collections whose tokens are associated with avatar images. Collection size, attributes and access features depend on the project; no collection size is mandatory.

PFP collections associate tokens with avatar images. Some combine generated visual traits; others use individual works. The format does not impose a token count.

A project may add access to spaces or features, with defined conditions. Using an avatar does not automatically prove control over its associated NFT.

Token ownership and image licensing differ. Usage rights and metadata-change permissions require checking.

NFT metadataNFT metadata is the document, usually in JSON format, that describes the asset linked to the token: name, description, image and attributes. The on-chain token guarantees uniqueness and ownership through a pointer, and the metadata supplies the recognizable content for the user.
NFT metadata storageNFT metadata storage determines where information associated with a token, such as its name, image and attributes, is kept. It can reside in a contract or outside the network through a URI. Availability, integrity and mutability depend on architecture and permissions.

RevealA reveal is the NFT launch mechanic by which each token's final image and metadata stay hidden during the mint, showing a generic placeholder, and are unveiled afterward, usually once the mint closes, by switching the source of the metadata.
