ERC-7484, officially titled Registry Extension for ERC-7579, was created on 14 August 2023, has Draft status and requires ERC-7579. It standardizes the interface and behavior of Module Registries: contracts that hold an on-chain list of attestations about modules. An attestation is an on-chain assertion about a module's security, issued by an entity called an attester. An adapter in the smart account queries and validates those attestations from the registry.
The flow is clear. When an account requests to install a module, its installation hook queries the registry, passing the module address and a required trust level. If the module is not attested to the required level, installation reverts. The specification includes a reference implementation of an ownerless Singleton Registry, so no single entity concentrates control of the registry.
It connects directly to modular account security. Installing third-party modules without verification opens risk vectors, so ERC-7484 provides a trust layer based on verification and scoring over the ERC-7579 ecosystem. The standard and its reference Module Registry are driven by Rhinestone, whose members are among the authors. Its dependency on ERC-7579, the modular smart account standard, is direct, and it applies in environments such as safe7579, the ERC-7579 adapter for Safe accounts.
