MiCA Article 3 distinguishes ARTs from EMTs. A token referencing one official currency may be an EMT; a token referencing gold or another combination of values may qualify as an ART if the regulation’s conditions apply.
ART issuers have specific authorization or entitlement, reserve, governance and redemption requirements. Redemption is not described as universal parity with one fiat currency.
The category concerns reference mechanisms and legal classification. It should not be confused with every asset-backed token or a tokenized financial instrument excluded from MiCA.
